Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a Rental Agreement presented at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This document outlines essential terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your obligations regarding the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the terms in the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Carlisle Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence for the relevant vehicle category is required, along with valid identification and proof of your current address. You will also need to provide valid payment information and a security deposit, as well as fulfill any additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Carlisle office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and security deposit are usually collected at the time of vehicle pick-up. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and report any existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and requires your signature. Please return the vehicle in the same state as it was received, allowing for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in extra charges, so please notify us as soon as possible if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will be accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during the rental period, along with a handling fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals at Carlisle come with basic third-party insurance included. Details regarding coverage and excess amounts are outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless covered by extra insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will be your responsibility, regardless of existing insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For detailed information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is strictly prohibited. Engaging in racing, rallying, or off-roading, as well as any dangerous undertakings, is not allowed. The transport of hazardous materials is forbidden. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not permitted. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is unacceptable. The vehicle must be used for its intended purposes only, and adherence to passenger and weight limits is required. Additionally, driving outside of agreed geographical limits without prior consent is not allowed.
Breaching these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Carlisle will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will be capped at the amount you paid for your rental in the previous year. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in English and Welsh courts.
Updates to Terms
We can update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Your ongoing use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
